150 years ago on April 27, 1865, by the effort of an American Senator and  experienced educator Ezra Cornell and Andrew Dickson White defended the idea of cornell University. Ezra Cornell offered his farm in Ithaca, New York as a site and $500,000 of his personal fortune as an initial endowment.  The university was inaugurated on October 7, 1868. Its starting enrollment was 412 male student.Since 1894, this University has included state-funded statutory colleges and has also administered research and extension activities that have been jointly funded by state and federal matching funds.
 In 2004, the university opened the Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar. It continues to forge partnerships with major institutions in India, Singapore, and the People's Republic of China.  On March 9, 2004, University of Cornell and Stanford laid the cornerstone for a new Bridging the Rift Center located on the Israel–Jordan border.
Cornell University will be widely recognized as a top-ten research university in the world, and a model university for the interweaving of liberal education and fundamental knowledge with practical education and impact on societal and world problems.
