The proposal in the Parliament, Kathmandu University was approved by an Act of Parliament on December 11, 1991.The emphasis of Kathmandu University is to always turn it to a research-cum-teaching university in science, management, engineering, medical sciences, arts, and education. It is also commonly called K U in short and simply speaking.
Kathmandu University is an autonomous, not-for-profit, non - government institution committed to manage excellent standards of academic quality. It is committed to build leaders in professional areas by way of transcendence education.It is situated in a mountainous landscape in Dhulikhel Municipality approximately 30 kilometers east of capital city Kathmandu having round-the-year pleasant climate and spectacular Himalayan Scenery.
Within a length of 21 years,Kathmandu University has instituted a highest achievement of academic brilliance. Today, the University provides different undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs in science, engineering, medicine, management, education, arts, pharmacy, environment, music, human & natural resources, information technology and biotechnology, through School of Science, School of Management, School of Engineering, School of Medical Sciences, School of Education and School of Arts. Apart from 3695 students studying in its constituent campuses 7500 students are in its affiliated colleges.The academic programs of the University are according to credit-semester system with continuous internal evaluations. To routinely improve the educational standard, Kathmandu University has been efficiently cooperating with more than 50 universities and institutions of international status for faculty and students exchange programs, credit transfer and joint research work and exchange information. This has helped this university to identify itself well in the world community.
Kathmandu University remaining a non-governmental institution, it depends mainly on the wonderful assistance and cooperation of national and International donors, INGOs, government, and local communities.
